The Great Wound was founded by Ekaitz Garmendia (Extinction, ex-Legen Beltza) and Tristán Iñiguez (ex-Darkness By Oath) as a project band. The main idea of this group was doing something different from their past bands.
One of their strongest influences is Dissection. They composed a Blackened Death album, with many melodic elements. In some songs like The Scarecrow they use keyboards, giving a modern style to their music.
They change a lot the direction the songs take, alternating aggressive voices with technical parts. There isn’t any repetitive riff, all tracks have different structures. One interesting detail is that the tempo is always changing, resulting in a constant evolution of the music.
Look Beyond What You See and Temple Of Wrath are instrumental songs, perfectly suited for the soundtrack of an epic movie.
Conclusion: “Voices Of Regret” isn’t an innovative album of Blackened Death but for being an LP of the present it is a great work in this genre.
Favorite tracks: The Scarecrow, Uncanny Valley, Defiance Of Existence.
