Wormed was formed in Spain (1998). They play Sci-Fi Tech Death Metal according to the band, which boils down to Brutal Tech Death. In their songs, the lyrics talk about science, physic, space etc.
They’ve released three studio albums and one EP. The first album was published in 2003 "Planisphaerium" and ten years after their second full-length, Exodromos came out. Now the band has just released "Krighsu". This last work is more brutal and it’s faster than any other material ever created by Wormed. It isn’t longer than the other LPs, it has 10 tracks with a total-duration of 35 minutes approximately.
The first track, “Pseudo-Horizon” is fucking strange, fast tempo and aggressive riffs mixed with non-habitual guitar chords. It also features an extremely technical rhythm as well as many breaks and changes in structure. The second song as well has weird parts and the record keeps getting more and more interesting as time goes on - this new material is pretty innovative!
There’s one song split in two tracks, The Singularitarianism and Eukaryotic Hex Swarm. It has a melodic composition that differs from the others. The first part is an introduction to the calm riffs of the second part, but also in the second one, they play heavy sounds.
The main structures aren’t very showy, but the technical sections are awesome. It’s like a chaos in your mind, perfectly ordered. They also introduced symphonic samples.
And to close the LP, we’ve the longest song of the band; “Molecular Winds”. It is technically rich and it is a good track to describe Wormed as they currently are. Heavy and light parts, down-tempos, rhythm changes.
Conclusion: The band has evolved a lot in Krighsu, they’ve performed an nearly perfect album, but I think they can do better. With this I don’t say that is a bad record. I mean, the musicians who form Wormed are brilliant, in each work they managed to compose more technical songs. In the next years we’ll be listening to their best album, I believe that a perfect Wormed record is still to come.
Favorite tracks: Pseudo-Horizon, Computronium Pulsar Nanarchy, Mollecular Winds.
