Stitched Up Heart

Stitched Up Heart is an American hard rock band based in Los Angeles, California. The group was founded in 2010 by vocalist Alecia 'Mixi' Demner and guitarist Merrit Alfero, later joined by bassist Randy Mathias and drummer James Decker.

After several years spent developing their sound, recording demos and playing in local clubs, in 2015 Stitched Up Heart was signed to Another Century Records, a division of Century Label Group. A new single, "Finally Free," was released in early 2016 and eventually reached No. 19 in America's Active Rock Radio Chart.A follow-up single, "Monster," was unveiled April 29, 2016 and premiered the song “Event Horizon” on June 3, 2016. The band's major label debut, Never Alone, was released on June 17, 2016.

Interview with James Decker:

1. First of all, please introduce the band
Mixi is our singer, Decker plays drums, Merritt and Nick play guitar and Randy plays bass.

2. Which are your influences?
Our influences are really all over the place. Mixi loves jazz singers like Louis Armstrong and Etta James as well as Frank Sinatra and on through Amy Winehouse; Decker is influenced by heavy hitting and innovative drummers like John Bonham, Matt Cameron and Danny Carey; Merritt is heavily influenced by John Five on guitar and film scorers like Hans Zimmerman for composition; Randy is a huge fan of Flea and Nick was first influenced by Slash.

3. Tell us about your new album, what can your fans hope for?
Our fans can hope for us to push this album as much as we can everywhere we can. We left home on April 13 and we have no plans of returning this year. We are going to tour our butts off to meet and perform for as many audiences as we can. In addition, we're also very active with our social media and we try to talk to everyone we can. We hope that everyone who hears our music can understand our message that there's always hope, even in our darkest times and that there's always someone there for you to turn to, whether it's family, friends, loved ones or even us!

4. Can you please describe the process of recording and production?
This album was made differently than our others in that our writing process changed. With each song, we set out to write the best song that we could. We'd write a part, or a lyric and then analyze it and see if there was anyway we could improve it. Then we'd record a scratch demo of the song and our producers would set out to create a better mix of it. A few sessions per song and voila! A song was born. Repeat that process 14 times (not counting the songs that didn't make the cut) and then add endless hours finalizing the mix and mastering the album and you have Never Alone.

5. You started in 2010, how did you become a reference in your style in such a short period of time?
Well thank you for that compliment! Just working hard and believing in yourself and your art tends to set you apart in any scene. Honing your craft to the best of your ability and staying humble are definitely two very important things to us. We constantly try to improve ourselves and learn as much as we can.

6. How is the Rock scene in Hollywood?
So many rock venues are disappearing and there are so many bands that want to play, so while there is an abundance of great talent, there are fewer places to showcase it. But it's where we all moved to find each other and form this band and it's still a great town to showcase in and find great people to work with.

7. Have you planned a European tour to present your upcoming album?
There's nothing specifically planned but we would certainly love to go to Europe and share our music with rock fans there. It's our dream to travel the world and showcase our music everywhere we go!

8. Which band would you like to tour with most?
We've been very lucky with the bands we've toured with so far and we've made lifelong friends with so many of them, recently Lacuna Coil and Sick Puppies and currently with Pop Evil. We get compared to In This Moment a lot so that would be a fun tour and we love Slipknot and Five Finger Death Punch so those would be dream tours for us.

9. Is there any interesting story about band-life you would like to tell?
At the very beginning of this tour something very interesting happened that we consider a good omen. We support many charities, notably and we love animals. At the first show, there was a cat in our dressing room and the cat was desperately trying to get Mixi's attention and have her pay attention to her. The cat was pregnant and went into labor during our set that night. So, while we played, a litter of kittens was born in our dressing room. It seemed appropriate because it was a new beginning for us and for the kittens.

10 Anything you would like to add?
Just that we're so grateful for all the love and support we've been getting from our friends, fans, family, media and everyone we work with and we will work as hard as we can to share our music and ourselves with all of you!
