Aborted "Retrogore" (By Ekaitz Tejedor)

Aborted was founded in Belgium. In 1995 they started doing Brutal Death Metal but later their style evolved to Deathgrind.

The band has released 9 studio albums and some EPs, they’ve been working with Century Media records for about 10 years. For the 20th anniversary of the band, they released a 10” vinyl, and one track of the EP has been included in the new record, Termination Redux.

This full-length was named Retrogore. In the cover we can see a Power Glove from the original Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) and also a broken View Master.

The start is intense and direct, without any introduction to the self-titled song. Like in the previous two works, Global Flatline and The Necrotic Manifesto, they’ve continued the same line of the modern Aborted Deathgrind style.

But the real strength of the album is concentrated on the middle tracks, with more aggressive songs. There are many structural changes and similar riffs from the classic Aborted full-lengths. As in Engineering The Dead, they’ve put some film samplers.

They haven’t tried to experiment with other type of riff styles, like in Strychnine.213, the songs in Retrogore are brutal, with few melodic elements only. They’ve taken the easy way, many of Aborted fans will love this album.

Favorite tracks: Retrogore, Bit by bit, From Beyond (the Grave).

Conclusion: There are some kick-ass songs, but they haven’t done anything special in this full-length. It's good, but somehow it's just another Aborted album. Perhaps, they’ll demonstrate their force in concerts.
