Collision "Satanic Surgery" (By Ekaitz Tejedor)

Collision are a Grindcore band from the Netherlands, formed in 2000. The band have two EPs and four albums, among other works. They started with an old school Grindcore style, but in 2012 they changed to more of a Crossover Thrash sound whilst still remaining true to their Grindcore roots.

In 2016 Collision are going to release their fourth studio album called ‘Satanic Surgery’.  It will be their second Crossover/Grind album, released again by Hammerheart Records. The artwork is done by Luis Sendón (Obscene Extreme Fest, SWR Barroselas, Euskal Assault, Otero Brutal Fest).

Twenty six minutes in length, Satanic Surgery is a record made to be listened to non-stop. Only a few tracks notably stand out; it is Grindcore, afterall!

The album’s opening track ‘Cripple the Cross’ has a Crossover feel to it and it is a great way to open the album with relentless energy. The song ‘Touch Me, Jesus’ follows the line of fast riffs and aggressive voices, whereas ‘Necromantic Love Affair’ has slower riffs, a killer bass, and speedy rhythmic changes.

‘Antichrist Gulag’ is the most Grindcore song of the album; with more distortion it could quite easily be a Crust Punk song. In contrast, ‘Diabolic Death Wish’ is hard to define; a different song in its own right, yet it still maintains the Collision essence.

The last song of the album, ‘Aggressive Assassination’ begins with a blistering bass sound, and whilst the track is not overly different to the other ones, it still sounds great.

The album, as I said before, is to listen to in its entirety. Twenty six minutes pass so fast; you cannot listen to just one song as the entire album feels like one very long song and none of the songs should be skipped or feel like fillers.

If you like Old School Grindcore, or Modern Grindcore, you will definitely like it.
