OEF 2022: Dan Seagrave - Shrine of the Rabid

!!!

OEF announce a collaboration with no one else than the legendary artist Dan Seagrave...

...who painted the covers of milestone albums of our favorite bands such as Dismember - Like an Ever Flowing Stream (1991), Entombed - Left Hand Path (1990) and Clandestine (1991), Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness (1989), Benediction - Transcend the Rubicon (1993), Carnage - Dark Recollections (1990) or Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten (1991).

It was a great honor for the crew when Dan visited the festival in 2015.

At that time, they had no idea that a cooperation would develop from Dan's visit to the festival inspiring him for an extraordinary festival motive. They are honored to present today Dan's work directly for our festival: OBSCENE EXTREME 2022: Dan Seagrave - Shrine of the Rabid!!!

So, you can see for yourself as the legendary artist sees OEF with his very eyes. Dan also wrote us a few words about his work: "The centre object being the shrine, and the people, and creatures being the rabid, kind of corralling the people to the shrine. Seems the shrine is also made up of past life, petrified creatures of the forest."

Who is Dan Seagrave?

Born in the U.K. in 1970 and growing up in the village of Ravenshead close to the City of Nottingham enabled him to experience both rural and urban life. Attending a school in the neighbouring coal mining village of Rainworth during the decline of the industry made an impact for his future works. At the age of 17, he created the album cover for a local thrash metal band 'Lawnmower Deth', released as the split Lawnmower Deth / Metal Duck – Mower Liberation Front / Quack Em All in 1989. This resulted in creating many more covers for their record label 'RKT' for no pay, but rather driven by the desire to see the art published.

As these albums found their way onto the desks of other record companies including Roadrunner Records in New York, Dan was increasingly being commissioned to create works for the newly exploding Death Metal music revolution of 1990’s. He painted iconing albums of the early death metal scene including Dismember - Like an Ever Flowing Stream (1991), Entombed - Left Hand Path (1990) a Clandestine (1991), Morbid Angel - Altars of Madness (1989), Benediction - Transcend the Rubicon (1993), Carnage - Dark Recollections (1990), Suffocation - Effigy of the Forgotten (1991), Malevolent Creation - Stillborn (1993) and many more.

He is often working in a meticulous style to convey epic scenes evoking subjects of greed, isolation, depersonalization, and evolution. Dan has made well over 100 album covers for many bands since the late 80’s, and this career began with the onset of the original death Metal scene. Among his inspiration belong artists such as Piranesi, Gustav Dore, Max Ernst, Giger, Kris Kuksi, Turner, Holbein či Casper David Friedrich. He is also inspired by architecture and cities such as Barcelona, Rome, Berlin, New York or London. He lives in Toronto, Canada.
