Entrevistamos a su frontman; Aaron Beam.

Interview with Aron Beam.

Static Age- Estáis en plena gira Europea. ¿Que tal la experiencia?¿Que lugares destacaríais?¿Como vive el público vuestra música por aquí?

You are well into your European Tour. What it’s been like? What have been the highlights so far? How does your music go down here?

Aaron Beam- Genial, como siempre. Como mejores momentos destacaría nuestro primer concierto en Ginebra (Suiza). Fue enorme, todo vendido e increíble. El show en Rijeka, Croacia fue uno de los mejores de todos los tiempos. El público era una auténtica locura, no pararon en todo el concierto. Muy inspirador. La comida después del concierto en Orleans, Francia fue la mejor de la gira. Los dos conciertos de Portugal fueron increíbles - Nuestros primeros conciertos en Clubs allí! Nuestra música gusta mucho en Europa. Los fans europeos están muy entregados. Cada vez escuchamos menos la expresión “Oye Gandalf, bonito vestido”, porque la gente empieza a ver más allá de los vídeos y a escuchar la música y disfrutarla por su propia esencia. O tal vez se cansaron de gritar “Hey Gandalf”.

It has been great as always! Some highlights so far – the first show in Geneva was huge and sold out and amazing. The show in Rijeka, Croatia was an all-time great. The crowd was SO CRAZY and they did not slow down for the entire set. Very inspirational. The meal we had in Orleans, France, after the show was an all time tour meal. Both shows in Portugal were amazing – our first club shows there! Our music goes down very well in Europe. European fans seem very focused on the music. We have been hearing “hey Gandalf, nice dress” less and less because I think people are starting to see past the videos and listen to the music and enjoy it for its own merits. Or maybe people are just tired of saying “Hey Gandalf.”

S.A.- Sois un referente dentro del Stoner Rock. ¿Como habéis vivido la evolución de la banda desde que publicasteis vuestro primer trabajo? 
You’re a point of reference within Stoner Rock. How do you feel the band has evolved since the release of your first work?

A.B.- Si acaso, hemos hecho lo contrario! Supongo que simplemente hemos evolucionado como cualquier otra persona o banda. Escuchamos nueva música, nuevas bandas y todo eso influye en nuestro sonido. Por lo que hemos evolucionado del mismo modo que la música en general.

If anything, we have devolved! I suppose we have just evolved the way anyone does. We have heard more new music, new bands, and everything we hear colors the way we sound. So we have evolved the same way the whole music scene has.

S.A.- Cuales son vuestras principales influencias?
What are your biggest influences?

A.B.- Las mias, no las de la banda: Jesus Lizard, Soundgarden, Hot Snakes, YOB, Unwound, Big Business y Nomeansno.

This is me personally, not the band - Jesus Lizard, Soundgarden, Hot Snakes, YOB, Unwound, Big Business, Nomeansno.

S.A.- Sobre vuestro último LP. Habéis tenido críticas muy diversas. ¿Cómo definiríais vuestro álbum?
Your last LP got very mixed reviews. How would you describe the album?

A.B.- La experiencia de crearlo ha sido muy intensa, yo creo que se palpa parte de la oscuridad y el estrés del proceso de creación que sufrimos mientras escribiamos los temas. Es más oscuro, malhumorado y con un sentimiento algo mas inquieto. Algunas personas están desalentadas por la naturaleza agitada del álbum, pero capta a la perfección nuestro estado de ánimo de aquel momento.

Um, mixed, I suppose? It was more intense to make this one, and I think some of the darkness and stress of the creation process is evident in the songwriting. It is darker, moodier, and a little more stressed out feeling. Some people are probably put off by the agitated nature of the album, but I believe it very accurately captured our mood at the time.

S.A.- ¿Cuando tenéis previsto empezar a crear nuevo material? 
When do you think you’ll start writing some new material?

A.B.- Ya hemos empezado! Estamos grabando dos nuevos temas esta semana para un 7’’ que saldrá pronto a la venta. También hemos estado escribiendo mucho durante las pruebas de sonido. Siempre estamos creando.

Already started! We are recording two brand new songs this week for a 7” that will come out soon. We were writing a lot during sound-checks, too, actually. We are keeping the juices flowing this time.

S.A.- ¿Este verano en que festivales tocáis? ¿En cuáles os gustaría tocar?
What festivals are you going to play this summer? Any others where you would like to play?

A.B.- Bien, no estoy seguro de cuales están oficialmente confirmados y cuáles no, por lo que no quiero cometer un error diciendo algo que aún no es público. Una vez tuvimos una oferta para un festival en Kristiansand, Noruega que tuvimos que rechazar. Hay dos festivales en los que ya hemos tocado pero en los que volvería a tocar sin dudarlo - Eistnaflug in Neskaupstadur, Islandia y Roskilde en Copenhague.

Well, I am not entirely sure which ones have been officially announced and which have not, so I don’t want to make the mistake of letting something be known that is not public yet. We had an offer once for a festival in Kristiansand, Norway, that we had to turn down. There are two festivals we have already played but I would play either one again in a heartbeat – Eistnaflug in Neskaupstadur, Iceland, and Roskilde in Copenhagen. 

S.A.- ¿Cual ha sido la banda con la que más ilusión os ha hecho compartir escenario?  ¿Con cual os gustaría tocar en el futuro?
Which band have you most enjoyed sharing a stage with? Who would you most like to play with in the future?

A.B.- Actualmente, para mi, ha sido Helms Alee. Me gustan mucho. Les convencí para que me dejaran tocar la guitarra con ellos en unos cuantos temas. En el futuro me encantaría tocar con YOB, Torche, Big Business, Russian Circles, Ty Segall y Chelsea Wolfe. No en ese orden. Es porque soy un gran fan de todas esas bandas y me encantaría tener la oportunidad de verlas una y otra vez.

Recently, for me, it has been Helms Alee. I liked them so much, I convinced them to let me play guitar with them on a few songs. In the future I would love to play with YOB, Torche, Big Business, Russian Circles, Ty Segall, and Chelsea Wolfe. Not in that order. But because I am a big fan of all those bands and would love a chance to see them over and over again.

S.A.- ¿Alguna historia interesante para compartir con vuestros seguidores?
Have you got any interesting stories to share with your fans?

A.B.- Había una vez un búho que vivió en una casa. El búho quería hacer té pero no tenía agua. Pensó y pensó, y se le ocurrió la idea de hacer té con sus lágrimas. Imaginó las cosas más tristes que pudo hasta que llenó la tetera con ellas. Hirvió el agua e hizo el té. Era un té delicioso, pero algo salado.

Once upon a time, there was an owl who lived in a house. The owl wanted to make some tea, but he had no water. He thought and thought and came upon the idea to make tea out of his own tears. So he imagined all the saddest things he could until he filled the pot with his tears. He boiled the water and made tea from it. It was delicious tea, but a bit salty.

S.A.- ¿Hay algo que quieras decirles a vuestros seguidores europeos?
Is there anything you would like to say to your fans in Europe?

A.B.- Me gustaría decir: muchísimas gracias por el amor y apoyo recibido por toda Europa. Desde Helsinki a Lisboa de Croacia a Glasgow. De no haber habido interés por nuestro grupo en estos lugares yo hubiera visto mucho menos mundo y hubiera tratado con mucha menos gente interesante de la que he conocido. Lo aprecio verdaderamente, estoy extremadamente agradecido y soy perfectamente consciente de los afortunado que soy.

I would like to say thank you so much for all the love and support we get all over Europe from Helsinki to Lisbon to Croatia to Glasgow. If there were no interest in our band from all these places, I would have seen much less of the world and met fewer interesting people than I have. I genuinely appreciate it and am extremely grateful and I am quite aware of just how lucky I am.
