Revocation - Empire Of The Obscene (Metal Blade Records reissue) (By Ekaitz Tejedor)

Revocation is a Technical Death-Thrash band from United States. They started as Cryptic Warning in 2000, but they changed their name to Revocation in 2006. The style of Revocation is difficult to define, it contains Grindcore elements, many Thrash riffs, 100% technical metal…

They have released 2 EPs and 5 studio albums, three of them released by Relapse Records, and the last by Metal Blade Records. Their debut album “Empire Of Obscene” was self-released in 2008, and in 2015, it was reissued by Metal Blade Records, including the EP “Summon The Spawn” as bonus.

The album starts with “Unattained”, this track has the most brutal voice record of any Revocation work. Great solos make Unattained one of my favorite songs.

“Tail From The Crypt” is B R U T A L, the beginning is fucking killer. They demonstrate their creativity and technicity here.

The happiest song of the album is “Exhumed Identity”, great progressive-technical track. They don’t lower, but raise up their level!

A mix of brutality and progressive riffs can be found in “Fields Of Predation”, changing from one to another without any pause.

“Alliance In Tyranny” also is a “happy” track. It is an instrumental song, they play with many rhythm changes, without stopping in any moment. It is interesting to discover a Modern Metal song, with great guitar solos, killer drums…and the bass doesn’t lose his place.

“Age Of Iniquity” is a fucking orgy of Technical metal, you can’t listen to this song without feeling anything.

“Empire Of The Obscene” closes the album like the beginning - brutal, direct, stronger than the other songs, but keeping the Revocation essence.
